With Chelsea leading 4-1 against Napoli in the Champions League, the Blues needed to hold tight and ensure they did not concede to complete a memorable night and go through to the last eight. What they needed was strong direction from the touchline and fortunately for Chelsea fans they had it from a club legend - and we're not just talking about caretaker manager Roberto Di Matteo. Next to the Italian and just as animated was John Terry, barking orders from the touchline like a seasoned gaffer   . It's common knowledge that Terry wants the top job at Stamford Bridge one day, but with Chelsea searching for a new manager, why wait until he's retired from playing? If Roman Abramovich can give the job to a 34-year-old relative novice, why not Mr Chelsea? After all, the Blues haven't been afraid of appointing player managers in the past, with some success too...

     funny you say that i was debating this after the napoli win and i think he needs to go and earn his stripes like pep, brendan rogers, sparky before he gets the job otherwise he will see the exit more painfully than missing that penalty in moscow

There is talk that Lampard is doing tactics, and John Terry is the 'gaffer', Drogba is the on pitch commander.

Di Matteo does press conferences

Im sure u all saw Lion John terry barking instrustions to players on the pitch, overriding Di Matteo

so its true ?  :o

But its a bit obvious even if you watching from afar.
These English boys are funny sometimes.

But did u see when Di Matteo was jumping around celebrating the Napoli win, he jumped onto Torres and the guy just ignored him. That when i saw that Di Matteo is a persona-non-grata at Stamford Bridge dressing room

Thats why i despise John Terry. The only other player i have known to have such power at any club was Raul and he had earned the right by delivering when it mattered

@ golo now you see why AVB had to make a clean sweep in the dressing room, but he bottled it and therefore he was doomed before xmas. he didnt help his cause by banishing alex and anelka to the dressing room

@jecha, i would be surprised if there is anything 'bout chelsea that you could accept :D  :D  :D

Theres a Lampard intervies on Sunday's Sun newspaper, where he is talking of this stuff, apparently AVB tried to do a clearout but Lampard and co. clearly refused, lampard says it himself, he say AVB mus have focused on the present , maening he shouldnt have benched Lampard and his friends.

These guys are too powerfull, they are running Chelsea, look at how many managers theyve seen through the door.

Scolari wanted to reveal everything i dont know why he stopped.

I find it funny that every interview from Chelsea players intimates that there was no "player power" or that AVB was undermined by them and yet there were reports of grumbling. Lampard even had an interview where he was saying the club needs players like him,Terry,Drogba et al in addition to some youth to win. I dont think i have ever seen them being as vocal as they are today about tactics.Luiz and Mata seem to have more positive things to say and i think they were the main supporters of AVB and guys like Meireles may turn out to be the biggest losers from all this .

Blueboys actually Chelsea is the only team i dont mind winning the EPL and only english team i would rather one the CL as opposed to Man U. My own club Arsenal well i can only dream. I am tolerant of Chelsea because of the African connection of Drogba, Mikel, Kalou, Essien etc

@ golo you have to realise that the seniors at chelsea were moulded into playing a certain way and they were very successful at playing that way. it might not be pretty but it is effective and it works for them. my problem is when a new manager comes in they talk the talk but bulk at the chance to move senior players on and bring in players who will play for them like jose did. if AVB had brought in those porto boys he had last year and moved on the likes of lamps and co i think he would have had more success but he bottled it instead choosing to fight and publicly humilate them, i mean seriously how can he tell anelka to park with the reserves?? that lost him the dressing room and from there he was always going to struggle, and as you have rightly pointed out as soon as fergie and wenger see player descent they are moved on even for a cheap price because you have to let the players know who is boss.

@ jecha      somehow i doubt that, would you be singing the blues praises if we should win the champions league :D  :D i know , a brother can dream right :D
