Yes I remember those people. I was at Highfield from 1976 up to 1981!!!
For those of you who came much later, Highfield used to have an exclusively white teaching staff. The blacks I remember were tea boys, garden boys, library boys! In my humble opinion, I suspect they sent all the whites who could not get jobs in the white schools. I have to agree though that the school was prestigious, clean and well equipped. Everything seemed to work back then.

I wonder where all these people are.

Gannet - Robin Miles Garnet!! Wanted us to sign up for "Call Up". He forced us to sign conscription papers to join the Rhodesian Army to fight Magandanga.

Racist Battolo was Italian and he thought all of us were spoilt and needed to be whipped every so often.

Famous Mr Chimbunde- was the first Affirmative action Black Headmaster. I think he did a cool job!

Mrs Morton- was a good English teacher and taught me in Forms 1A and Form 2A- these were boys-only classes.

Mr Flyn...literature teacher. Very lanky indeed

DOSH the maths teacher- are you refering to the Afrikaner teacher? His name was Dreikmeyer!!

Patrick the Librarian- he did most of the work while his boss, the chain smoker, Mr Stohl, spoke about Germany and the last World War. He probably was a wanted guy after Nuremberg and he hid most of his last years at Highfield.

Thank you man for these names. I need to hook up with you.

No, Mr Garnett was tall and slim. This dude was in the Rhodesian Army and there is no way he would have been fat and flabby!

I was at Fio from 1981 to 1982 for A-levels. We were the second stream of A-level students at Fio, ever! The first ever A-level class matriculated in 1980. We had our new brown brick building at the back of the school. I only remember the teachers that taught us at A-level. I remember Garnett the white principal, and the deputy was a short black, bald guy I can't remember his name. Our Math teacher was Mr. Chipato, he used to come to work after passing through some Machipisa pub, drunk like a skunk ne Chibuku (you knew it was now Zimbabwe); our Physics teacher was Mr. Mitch Middleman, he had escaped Apartheid South Africa and he went to great pains to impart the love of physics to the natives. The Chemistry teacher was initially some black Zimbabwean who loved his chemistry but left early in our first year to join Caps, Ltd (we used to call him Schrödinger), after him came some Australian expatriate, a mild-mannered guy, I cannot remember his name. We had a solid A-level class and most of our graduates went on to become excellent professionals.
"The fascists' major objective is that of justice, greater social justice. If modern science has solved the other problem, that of multiplying wealth, science, spurred on by the state must now solve the other problem, that of wealth distribution. So that the illogical, paradoxical phenomenon of want in the midst of plenty shall not be repeated" Benito Mussolini 1933.

Quite a lot is being made out of the junk to my view. I can see kwv is already insunuating that something positive could have been genetically donated into his gene-pool from the Neanderthal's huge brain. This is more like saying because we share some huge percentage of our genome with the house fly, we might at least have some gene capacity to fly.
