That was the original highfield high.
Yes I remember those people. I was at Highfield from 1976 up to 1981!!!
For those of you who came much later, Highfield used to have an exclusively white teaching staff. The blacks I remember were tea boys, garden boys, library boys! In my humble opinion, I suspect they sent all the whites who could not get jobs in the white schools. I have to agree though that the school was prestigious, clean and well equipped. Everything seemed to work back then.
I wonder where all these people are.
Gannet - Robin Miles Garnet!! Wanted us to sign up for "Call Up". He forced us to sign conscription papers to join the Rhodesian Army to fight Magandanga.
Racist Battolo was Italian and he thought all of us were spoilt and needed to be whipped every so often.
Famous Mr Chimbunde- was the first Affirmative action Black Headmaster. I think he did a cool job!
Mrs Morton- was a good English teacher and taught me in Forms 1A and Form 2A- these were boys-only classes.
Mr Flyn...literature teacher. Very lanky indeed
DOSH the maths teacher- are you refering to the Afrikaner teacher? His name was Dreikmeyer!!
Patrick the Librarian- he did most of the work while his boss, the chain smoker, Mr Stohl, spoke about Germany and the last World War. He probably was a wanted guy after Nuremberg and he hid most of his last years at Highfield.
Thank you man for these names. I need to hook up with you.
