We seem to enjoy more dreaming than envisioning. When we got our independence in 1980, the elite then never imagined 2012 would be upon us. That is why they had highsounding nothings like “Health for all by 2000”.

Word. If you don't have any requirement to use MS Office and pay for it. Open Office is just as good and its free.

You clear aren't technologically savvy. why spend close to £100 for an office suite that'll simply bloat your system and perhaps install loads of unecessary crap on your pc such as toolbars without your consent? oracle has taken over open office and it is now Libre office which is a newer verion. U'll find that open source apps have similar if not better capabilities that commercial software. Hate free things with a passion??? u clearly not up 2 scratch with computing. migrate to linux and experience an entirely different and more advanced world compared to that microcrap windows

I have used both open office and MS office.Open office doesn't provide any of the features of MS office. It changes the files according to it's will when we open a file prepared in any other office suits. It supports all formats but for no use. But the major advantage is that it is free.

open office (which is now libre office) does not save documents as .doc by default. Go to tools, options, load/save, general, always save as...then select your choice of the default saving option i.e. ms word, text etc. Nothing wrong with the software. it just needs to be configured to suite your needs like any other software...Libre office all the way baby!!!!!

well if all you use your computer is for email and word documents then fine linux is sufficient. I use my computer for more powerful applications that open source are not open to.
There is more to computing than just opening a few documents.

you clearly have limited knowledge of linux. do u realise that even macOSX was inspired by unix/linux and uses more or less he same architecture? do u realise that windows 2000 interface is adopted from the first release of pclinux os. Are you aware that linux is not only resticted to basic daily usage but that most banking and mail servers use linux/unix based systems because they are immune from windows viruses and exploits. before we get into the antivirus issues...antiviruses are used in linux servers only to stop viruses from being spread from one windows user to the next because linux/unix servers are a conduit between the originator and the end user. linux is multilayer and has a locked root account. if you attempted (you will be lucky if you succeed to run an exploit), it would not affect the system because of the multilayered architecture of the system. unix/linux utilises .deb and .taz files from community based repositories. it is impossible to download a rogues app for linux coz they are not your run of the mill execautables that can easily affect your mainstream operating system. you can only download apps from software sources within the operating system that are maintained by the operating system devolopers and community. you can't just download from any other site coz a legit app has to be supported by dependancies. go to www.osalt.com (stands for open source alternative) and search for just about any windows application. you will be pleasently surprised to find out that you will get an alternative for just about everything you would do on a commercial operating system from architecture, programming, image manipulation, dvd authoring etc, including music production music production. Are you aware that fruity loops music production suite (now flstudio) was adopted from LMMS (linux multimedia studio)? are you aware that andoid operating system found on most phones is a linux operating system? chromeOS? where did java originate? firefox? google chrome? gimp image editor? k3b? virtual desktops? windows effects? i use a dualboot system with ubuntu 11.04 and windows 7. i only use windows 7 for my iphone and blackberry. linux even supports my wireless printers from HP to Lexmark. linux has a collosal world of apps available. i suggest your go to linux forums or blogspots and do your research before you talk sh?t. its amazing how people who have limited knowledge or simply do not have a clue about things that are alien to them are quick to knock them down before they learn about them. if you are not interested then live blissfully with your ignorance. i respect peoples personal choices but i hate people who just bang on about things they have no clue about. do your research. dunda head!!!!! read this http://www.linux.ie/...lternatives.php this http://diaryofanaspi...ndows-apps.html and this http://www.linuxscre...linux-software/ and stop making comments about things you don't know about.

are you done?

Now look at my signature and tell me what operation system that programm runs in. that and other programms like it that I use in my industry use windows and so despite your ranting windows is important to me because of these added benefits.
I hate windows mobile but because of minda mobile I still have a windows 6 phone that I only use in spring. The ability to wand an animal from metres away is worth more to me than all your runtings and at this stage only windows can offer me that and until your ubuntu or what ever you call them can offer me that then they are of no use to me.

I don't give a toots about what's popular or what's best for you but I am after what is best for me. Until you can come up with suitable alternatives for my protrack, p-plus feedplan etc then all you are doing is pissing in the wind.

happy computing.

My point is not to convert you but it's to make you realise that it doesn't mean this if ur cultured to something and don't understand i.e. other systems, don't diss them because you don't know them because all you do is make yourself look stupid. same as cars and tv's it'll will be a boring world if we like the same thing but don't make linux users come across as inferior coz if u had an ounce of education at any level you'll realise how much of an @$$h0le u really are.

in the paddocks I enter all calvings on to minda mobile powered by windows mobile.(the only time I use my windows mobile smartphone otherwise I use webos.) then bluetooth to minda home on my pc while watching tv. viola my calvings are done.
and u tell me to go open source.
