Very badly if at all these days, he was very forward looking and was adamant that English was the way to go.

But it is not unusual these days when you have been out of Africa for a while, just the other day I greeted an Ndebele friend who has been in the UK since he was young.

He was like, “what’s that I can’t understand you!” I can greet people and a few of the basics in both Ndebele and Shona, when I return for good I will pick it up again.

No that’s not what I am saying, what I have always said is that there is a need for an international language and that at this stage it happens to be English.

Many people think they can talk and understand English well, but the truth is very different and they lose ground in business matters because of that fact.
If you speak English at home you have more chance of being successful on an international level, which determines a countries future in the global village.

We are not against the use of English but we must not allow it to overstep its mark.  Shona, Ndebele, Venda and Tonga must all be given equal official status and be used in all spheres of life.  If English is to be taught in Zimbabwe then it should be taught on a level playing field with Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Japanese, and all other major languages of the world.

You’ve lost it again, why teach those other foreign languages when they are not the international one, I agree that local languages should be a priority but all the rest is too much.

There would be no time for math, science and all the rest, using your system all we would be able to do is talk a hundred languages each while we starve to death or die of infection.

Who gives the right for English to be the so-called international language?  Whoever supports it is obviously a self-hating Uncle Tom, sell-out and coconut.  The world survived very well long before the English invaded them.  English is no better or worse than Zulu, Apache, Hungarian, Samoan, Greek, Susu, Korean, Kikongo, Quechua, Warlpiri, Burmese or Swedish.
