"The heart has its reason, which reason does not know"

"It is the heart which perceives God and not the reason."
"A man's heart changes his countenance, either for good or for evil."
"It is only with the heart that one can see right; what is essential is invisible to the eye."
"The heart is forever inexperienced."
"We know the truth, not only by the reason, but also by the heart."

Tough question.

This is a figure of speech which we still use but has nothing to do with reality. The whole thing started from ignorance of the functions of the human body maybe justifiably so then. The only part inside the body which they actually felt move(beat)and was assumed to be the centre of all activity was the heart.Stop the heart and everything ceases. THIS IN NO WAY REDUCES THE IMPORTANCE OF THE QUESTION YOU POSED!
I personally think that we use the HEART as an excuse for any irrational decisions we make. We KNOW what is wrong, see the loopholes and lies. Under normal circumstances and logical thinking we wouldnt touch religion with a mile long pole. But religion gives us this hope and a promise of success which in our present life we have failed miserably to achieve. It gives us a base on which to stand and go on in this society. After hundreds of years of experimentation the "churches" have perfected their act and with a mixture of BLACKMAIL and EMPTY PROMISES they manage to keep the flock in check. The human inadequacy to stand on their feet, the lack of self-confidence and the FEAR of the UNKNOWN make people hide in the false cocoon called religion. Here any act is justified in the name of Jesus, god, allah or any other deity thus absolving the perpetrator(in the negative or positive sense) of any responsibility for their actions.
So there is no room for using the BRAIN but the perfect scape-goat... the HEART!

I like that. The HEART is just a EUPHEMISM for IRRATIONAL BEHAVIOUR. Perfect fodder for religions and their priests.

Religious Invention.

I agree with all of the above ....the heart rules the mind . If not why are our minds never at rest when our hearts are unappesed ?

So you wont accuse me of running away from your question ...;-
1. Rising up from death after 3 days - stolen from Egyptian mythology
2. walking on water, walking through fire, driving out demons, faith healing ... this is nothing special as magicians, faith healers, eccentrics, etc have done this over thousands of years.
3. different accounts of the same event written by "god-inspired" people ... is god's inspiration self-contradictory eg account of Judas' death.
4. the "bible" put the age of the earth and life at a few thousands of years yet we know its billions of years old ... is god so senile that he can't remember when he did what?
Man the list is endless!

Christ indeed rose from the dead there were eyewitness so it is not a myth ,mythological stories are exactly what they are myths .
2. walking on water, walking through fire, driving out demons, faith healing ... this is nothing special as magicians, faith healers, eccentrics, etc have done this over thousands of years.
Tell me one magician who rose from the grave
3. different accounts of the same event written by "god-inspired" people ... is god's inspiration self-contradictory eg account of Judas' death.
The appearance of the gospel in 4 different accounts indeed dismisses any suspicion of collussion .I an instance there is NO contradiction in Judas' death account.A contradiction occurs when one statement makes another statement impossible when both statements deal with the same topic at the same time. You can quote that you think is a contradiction here.
4. the "bible" put the age of the earth and life at a few thousands of years yet we know its billions of years old ... is god so senile that he can't remember when he did what?

The Bible indeed seems to suggest an Earth no more than thousands of years .This is agreed to by many leading scientists. The Bible is indeed an excellent historical book.
I could go on explaining in detail but will not bother wasting my time each and every baseless foolish allegation because we can ideed initiate a topic on each .

How did Christianity came to be? Before Christianity what was there? What did your ancestors believe in, were they wrong or you judge their actions according to a religion that stemmed from other religions?
Considering Christianity/Judaism came after some very old religions how do you deal with the similarities between Christianity and those other old religions? Coincidence?
The stories have been told before, it is only the players that change.

The Thracian god Zalmoxis (also called Salmoxis or Gebele'izis) was buried, resurrected and deified in his own lifetime, as described in the mid-5th-century BCE by Herodotus (4.94-96), and also mentioned in Plato's Charmides (156d-158b) in the early-4th-century BCE According to the hostile account of Herodotus' Greek informants, Zalmoxis buried himself alive, telling his followers he would be resurrected in three years, but he merely resided in a hidden dwelling all that time. His inevitable "resurrection" led to his deification, and a religion surrounding him (which preached heavenly immortality for believers) persisted for centuries.

Salmoxis, as envisaged by the Greeks
