Absolute disgrace!

(Reuters) – A Zimbabwe court convicted a group of six activists on Monday of plotting to unseat President Robert Mugabe’s government using public protests similar to ones that pushed out long-standing autocratic rulers in North Africa last year.

The group, led by Munyaradzi Gwisai, a former opposition lawmaker in Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s party, was arrested in February last year after police raided a meeting they were conducting.

They were charged with attempting to incite public violence to overthrow Mugabe, who has ruled the southern African state since its independence from Britain in 1980. All defendants denied the charges.

The activists face up to 10 years in jail. Sentencing was scheduled for Tuesday.

Our governement must be careful. These are the sort of things which bring unwanted attention from outside.

Just when the economics and politics of the country are on the way up, something like this can upset the apple cart so to speak.  Some of these little things have a way of snowballing into something big eg that Tunisian vendor burning himself resuling in the arab spring

These guys are capable of it. Lets not forget Ari-Ben Menashe & tsvangirai. Tsvangirai was just lucky otherwise that dude should be in jail.

Yes, but the situations a bit different.

Tsvangirai sat with a sleazeball who tricked him into considering 'eliminating' Mugabe.
These cats were having an intellectual debate about whether Zimbos would ever do an Egypt.
It's absolutely needless.

They only have to wait until the next election, then MT can pardon them and get rid of all the colonial oppression laws that Zanu love.

Some guys are always present where trouble brews. Anti-establishment types like Munyaradzi Gwisai, Wiwa, etc, are quite predictable. They just can't resist the urge to make noise. Sometimes you wonder if it's not just noise for the sake of noise...

I am surprised anyone bought the  "it was an intellectual debate" defence. It is not deniable that the meeting was entirely about strategising on starting a revolt...even agreeing on the SMS campaign on  assembly points like Market Square ...
THAT SAID....Harmless clowns like Gwisai and Madhuku ,always dying for any press coverage are best ignored. Hope they will just get light sentences...the fact that they were being tried from home is indicative of the gravity of the matter...

That's good news any African who engages in division of Africans should be jailed for life.
